Stand by yourself and for yourself, to live your dreams.
Stand by yourself and for yourself, to live your dreams.
Ambbali Bhattacharya is an International Watercolorist.
Ambbali had a well-settled career and income, but she always felt something was missing. She felt a lack of satisfaction from the work she was doing. Then, one fine day, with the universe’s support, exemplary courage, and a strong determination, she quit her job and directed her life towards her passion - Painting. From that day till today, she has never looked back. She is finally happy to be doing what gives her mental peace and work satisfaction.
Ambbali had been a creative child and had been painting since the time she can remember. She says the love of painting had always been in her blood, and it just needed a little motivation to work for it.
Ambbali feels that when such life-changing situations arise, there are lots of factors that influence decision-making abilities. Therefore, one needs to be their own inspiration and role model. When she started, she had no idea about great artists in the watercolour medium. But gradually digging books, blogs, and the internet, she got inspired by the artist Alvaro Castagnet for his excellence, humbleness, and success. She liked the way he expressed himself through his brush and canvas.
In a story like hers, one needs immense motivation to make a career shift decision. Ambbali had to be motivated enough to choose what her heart desired. She is wise enough to understand that following her dreams requires hard work, a clear vision, perseverance, and patience. She had to struggle with managing everything on her own, running her online school, marketing and promoting her class, learning more about water colouring, and in all this reminding herself of her goals consistently. It was tough and hectic at first, but her love for her work and the love she receives from her students and collectors motivates her to do better.
Since Ambbali took the hard pill, she knows the pathway to follow a dream. She advises aspiring artists/painters to keep patience, determination, and focus. She also advises standing for yourself through the self-doubt days.
Moreover, Ambbali says proper planning and strategizing will help smoothen the process one follows. Also, keeping an open eye on the competitors will give a clear understanding of the market. Having a five-year vision and setting yearly goals will help in dividing the points of focus. Educating oneself of the business will accelerate growth. Lastly, taking small steps and being your own supporter and motivator will go a long way and reap benefits for you.
Ambbali keeps herself energised by following the quote that says - “Believe in yourself for the other people to believe in you. Believe in your work for other people to believe in it too.” She feels that artists transfer their emotions and a part of themselves in every piece of their art, which attracts the audience. Thus artists need to believe in themselves for attracting the love and appreciation of the audition.
Talking about her struggles, Ambbali recalls the time when she had no one to guide her and had to learn everything herself. She is a self-taught artist and hence everything she is today is the result of her explorations, experiments, running around, reading, scrolling, and persistently moving forward. And above all, she had faith that she would achieve her dreams. Therefore, she never lost hope and courage, and slowly things worked out. She understood exhibition procedures, the paperwork for her online school, and ways to motivate herself on her low days. She feels blessed that her work is also her stress buster.
Lastly, Ambbali adds that before following a dream, one should introspect about the medium they want to choose, the amount of courage and experience they have and need, and the amount of knowledge and awareness they have on their subject of interest. Since a clear understanding of the self will give more chances of success in life.
